The Troubles of Writing a Daily Blog
It’s Hard to Write When There’s Not Much to Write About
As some of you may have noticed, I didn’t post yesterday. There are a couple of reasons for this. First, I mistakenly thought I had a post already scheduled. Second, I was finishing day two of laying laminate flooring, which meant an early start. Finally, it’s just genuinely difficult to write when there isn't much to write about.
You might think that laying flooring is a topic in itself, but I’ve discussed it before, and I didn't want to do a full write-up until the job was complete and I could show you some pictures of our new bathroom.
The Content Dilemma
I’ve been finding it increasingly difficult to find things to write about lately. When I started this blog, I decided I would only write about things I’m knowledgeable about and that wouldn’t get me into any bother. It’s tricky when you have to think about your own reputation, the people you care about, and the companies you work for. Hence my desire to stay away from "hot topics."
Believe it or not, I put a fair amount of work into this blog—spending at least three to four hours a day on it. I have to find a topic, research it (which is time-consuming when checking prices and creating affiliate links), write a draft, and then create a featured image for each post.
The Challenge of Dyslexia
The hardest part for me is checking for spelling and grammar. Those who know me personally know that I suffer from dyslexia. It’s a real struggle to make sure everything looks and sounds right, and you can definitely see that in my earlier posts. One thing that has made it easier is the Grammarly Safari plugin. While my posts are still a bit of a ramble, at least they are spelled correctly now!
I plan to write a few more posts on the technology I’d love to own, but there may be days where you don’t see any posts from me while I finish the bathroom and brainstorm new topics. Don’t worry—I haven’t dropped off the map entirely.
Let’s Make This a Two-Way Street
While I created this website to chronicle my life in lockdown and share my thoughts, I planned from the beginning for this to be a two-way street. I know not many people read my blog unless the word "free" is in the title, but I truly want to hear your feedback and ideas. Who knows? One day we could work together on a project that makes the world a little better.
What topic would you like me to discuss (that won’t get me in trouble with my wife or my future boss)? Have you ever struggled to find things to write about, and what did you do to overcome it? Do you have any feedback for the blog? As always, let me know in the comments below!
