Well… Once I’ve Put the Bathroom Floor Down

Today is finally the day I put the bathroom floor down. I had planned on doing it yesterday, but it turns out Abi had other plans! As I mentioned before, it shouldn’t be too difficult a job, except for cutting out around the sink and toilet.

While I had some time on my hands yesterday, I think I finalized the plans I’ve had for a while for a DIY glass-topped desk. When we first moved into our current flat, we were on a very low furniture budget and starting from scratch. We popped into our local charity shops (Real Aid and Christ Church Hub) and came out with a fully furnished flat for around £300.

The Desk Project

Since then, we’ve moved the TV to sit above the fireplace, and I’m left with a glass TV unit that is just begging to be put to good use. As you can see from the picture, it’s a fairly decent size, and I won’t have to drill any holes into it for mounting or cable runs, as there is already a half-moon dip at the back of each piece of glass perfectly designed for that.

My plan is to create two wooden support frames that will attach to the wall and support the glass. Due to the weight of all that glass and wood, I’m planning on having the wall support continue down to the floor to stop the wall between the office and our bedroom from collapsing on me.

It’s a simple design, even if it’s not the most elegant. I actually took the idea from when a friend and I shared a garage. While the benches in that garage had front legs to help take the weight of engines and such, I won’t be putting anything anywhere near that heavy on this desk.
