Welcome to my personal corner of the web.
I’m Jim, and this is where I document my various obsessions. If I’m not writing books or making music, you’ll usually find me deep in a tech rabbit hole.
This blog is my public notebook for everything from Apple hardware and AI to the technical side of film and live production. I’m a bit of a gear-head when it comes to lighting, sound, and cameras, and I have a never-ending project of making my home smarter than it probably needs to be.
I also write about anything else that catches my interest, including theoretical projects like the Carnaby Media Hub, as a way to get thoughts out of my head and, hopefully, share them with people who find them useful.
Stay a while, have a look around, and feel free to reach out.
Featured Projects

The Books: Magic, Mystery, and a bit of Grumpiness.
I’m currently building two very different worlds. In the Magitech Mysteries series (Whispers of the Arcane Grid and Digital Phantoms), I explore the neon-lit city of Novum—a place where every line of code hums with arcane energy and even spells can be hacked.
For something a bit more... exasperated, there is the Bartholomew Quill series. Join a retired magical enforcer, his disgruntled Shadow-Moth companion Murmur, and a very important Ever-Brewing Kettle as they navigate a magical world that is equal parts dangerous and inconvenient.

Soundtracks for Life and Logic.
Whether I’m experimenting with the latest in music-gen tech or singing to my kids, music is how I document my world.
Check out the Singularity Suite for a journey through machines and misadventures, or Some Kind of Intelligence for an AI-collaborative experience. You can also find the softer side of my work in Songs for Scarlett—a project born in the early days of fatherhood. (Stay tuned: a project for Blake is currently in the works!)

The Carnaby Media Hub.
Most blog posts stay as posts. The post got a little out of hand and became a whole series.
I started with a simple idea for a production hub and ended up creating a full architectural and technical roadmap. It covers everything from professional audio and video workflows to the complex network infrastructure required for live broadcasting and filmmaking. It’s equal parts creative imagination and technical manual.

Blackmagic, if I find a URSA Micro in my plant, we’ll be chatting. In Oct, I wrote about your ATEM upgrades, likening it to a marathon in flip-flops.

So… it’s been a minute, hasn’t it? I haven’t posted since the 16th of October, and before you think I’ve just been sitting around eating grapes (I wish), let me
