Isolation Day 14: My New 3D Project
Time to Learn How to Use Blender
I’ve set myself a new task for the next week or so to keep myself occupied! After a random conversation while watching restoration programs, Abi and I started discussing what our "dream home" would look like if we ever built one. We may have gone a little bit over the top.
That gave me an idea: we might not be able to build our fantasy home in reality right now, but there’s nothing stopping me from designing it in Blender.
The Design Philosophy
To make this house the perfect blend for both of us, I’ve settled on a contrast between the exterior and the interior:
- Exterior: Gothic / Gothic Revival style.
- Interior: Modern, minimalist, and functional.
- Key Features:
-
- Light & Space: Massive windows throughout to ensure the interior is flooded with natural light.
- Layout: The building is wrapped around a central courtyard to create an enclosed, private outdoor space.
- Lookout Towers: A couple of towers to serve as observation points for admiring the landscape and stargazing.
- The "Pink" Requirement: Abi had one non-negotiable request—the entire thing needs to be pink!
Architectural Details
To stay true to the Gothic aesthetic while keeping the construction manageable in 3D, I’m focusing on several specific design elements:
- Moulding: All doors and windows will feature custom-moulded surrounds.
- Towers: These will be chamfered (angled corners) rather than round to keep that sharp, Gothic look.
- Window Variety: Most windows will have the classic rounded tops. However, for the first floor, I’m using rectangular windows that open down the middle. I’m designing them without a center frame to ensure an uninterrupted view of the surrounding area.
What do you think of this direction? What specific architectural details should I add to give it that "Gothic Revival" feel, and what would you change? Let me know in the comments below!
