Isolation Day 20: We did some Proper Cooking!
Turns Out Pasta and Doughnuts Aren’t That Hard
Abi and I have decided that since we can’t go outside, we should adventure into the kitchen and try our hand at something new. With the help of Sorted Food, we managed to create both a main and a dessert.
The heading probably gave it away, but we followed their Cinnamon French Toast, Pasta, and Doughnut recipes. All of them are really simple and well worth giving a go.
- French Toast: Absolutely gorgeous! I wish I’d gotten a picture to share, but as I’d only woken up half an hour before making it, I didn't even think to pick up the camera. The best bit? Since Abi doesn’t like French Toast, I had it all to myself!
- Pasta: Since the shops were sold out, we decided to make our own. We turned it into a competition: we both had 1 egg and 100g of flour, but other than that, we could do as we wished. They took a bit longer than the suggested 2–3 minutes to cook because they were a bit thick and doughy, but they tasted great. (Abi insists hers was better, of course!)
- Doughnuts: Another rather simple recipe, though our yeast decided it didn't want to work, so they didn't rise as much as they should have while frying. They were still nice, though!
Overall, it’s been quite enjoyable, and we still have some of each left over for dinner and dessert tonight. For tonight’s main, I think I’ll upgrade from just pasta and sauce to a full Spaghetti Bolognese.
What recipes would you recommend? Do you have any tips on how to make our homemade meals even better? Let me know in the comments below!
Since you've been doing a bit of home cooking lately, I have a quick follow-up: If you're planning to make a full Spaghetti Bolognese tonight, are you looking for tips on refining your pasta dough thickness, or perhaps some recommendations for a slow-cooked sauce recipe to elevate the dish?
