What gear would I put in my Broadcast Truck?

The Broadcast Truck: Designing My Mobile Hub

For a long time, I’ve wanted to launch a business providing high-end live streaming and recording for events—concerts, theatre, conferences, and more. Rather than spending hours on-site rigging gear, the goal is to build a self-contained Mobile Broadcast Truck that serves as a central hub for all video and audio feeds.

I’m designing this from the ground up, and I’m taking you along for the journey.

The Base: VW ID. Buzz Cargo

Going electric is the goal, and the VW ID. Buzz Cargo is the standout choice. Its modular design and modern aesthetic are perfect for a compact, high-tech broadcast suite. While electric range can be a challenge for touring, this van hits the sweet spot for regional event production.

The Connectivity Stack

Reliability is everything. I’m adopting a "bond-everything" approach to internet connectivity:

• Bonding Engine: The Teradek Prism Flex. It’s my internet backbone, bonding hardline ethernet, 5G/4G modems, and Wi-Fi into one stable, high-bitrate stream.
• Redundancy: I’ll be running a mix of venue fiber/ethernet, multiple mobile networks, and Starlink for those "middle of nowhere" gigs where standard connectivity fails.

The Camera Ecosystem

For the primary glass, I’m leaning toward the Blackmagic URSA Mini Pro 12K.

• Why 12K? It’s all about the "wiggle room." In post-production, 12K gives me the ability to crop into wide shots so aggressively that I can simulate multi-camera setups from a single static wide angle.
• The Workflow: I’m planning a custom stage box utilizing armored MTP optical cables, allowing me to pull up to 12 pairs of fiber—handling internet, audio networking, and up to 9 camera feeds effortlessly.

The Hub: Rack & Control Gear

My goal is a "mini-truck, major-production" setup. Here is the core of the rack:

Designing the gear is the "fun" part, but the next step is the real heavy lifting: building out a comprehensive business plan with a full cost breakdown and ROI analysis.
