A Busy Couple of Weeks: Birthdays, Driving, and Shopping

Please excuse the short post this week, but it’s been a bit manic around here. I’ve not been able to make much progress on either of the two articles I’m writing at the moment, but stay tuned for those in the coming weeks!

If you’re interested, here is what is in the pipeline:

• Rigging for Events: A continuation of my ongoing series (links below).
• The Hardware Dilemma: A mini research project looking into what the best option is as I look to either finish a custom PC build or buy a new Mac.

Both are taking a little longer than I’d like to wrap up. Part of that is due to the sheer number of birthdays July brings for us. Both my wife's birthday and my own are at the beginning of the month, and then we have my dad's and sister's birthdays literally the day after each of them.

Between the celebrations, we’ve also been driving around a fair bit looking for presents for our eldest daughter's birthday next month. She may only be turning 2, but she’s surprisingly difficult to buy for!

We originally bought a ton of garden playthings for her, but it turns out the garden has taken far longer than we planned to get sorted. On the bright side, the last patch of grass has now been sown, and I’m looking forward to getting the mower out in the next few weeks when I can finally access the shed again! In the meantime, it's a bit of a mad dash to find a few things she can actually use and play with indoors while we wait for the grass to grow.

It may not sound like a lot, but between family, the garden, and work, I’ve not been able to find a lot of time to sit down and write. I’m usually a couple of weeks ahead with my posts, but unfortunately, that buffer has officially run out.

What's Coming Next?

I have plans to finish out the light and video side of the Rigging for Events series before I go into deep research mode for the sound side of things (I only do sound when I absolutely have to, so I'm not quite as clued into the latest tech there!).

Beyond that, I’m looking for some suggestions for future topics. A few ideas that have been bouncing around my head recently include:

• WordPress Deep-Dive: A series on setting up a WordPress blog, including some of the plugins and tools I’ve found incredibly helpful along the way.
• Local Digital Currencies: An exploration of digital currencies for local residents, and how they could help support independent shops in tourist towns like Bridlington.
• Community Online Radio: Looking back into online radio setups to see what has changed in the last couple of years, as I still can’t get the idea of a community radio station out of my head.
• Open-Source Invoicing: Looking into and comparing a few different self-hosted, open-source invoicing platforms.
